For several years the state universities live in Chile an adverse economic and social scenario. Since the reform of 1981 that dismantled the University of Chile as a national university, the situation of our universities has only worse both in terms of funding and in institutional terms.
public policies on higher education were implemented during the past 20 years have been eroded more and more state universities while favors the incorporation of private actors to the system, slowly but gradually have been accessing the always limited resources available to the State for higher education, making the funding to our universities will diminish dramatically to the point that today can be said that our institutions have been abandoned by the State.
The current government has continued with these policies and has ads that presume that this situation will worsen.
Considering these elements of analysis is that in 2009 the Academic Council agreed that our university decreed a Day of Defense Institutional State University with the purpose of representing to the community the importance our social and cultural institutions have and threats they are exposed.
This year the Federation of Students, the Staff Association and the Academic Staff Association, in conjunction with the leadership, institutions agreed that this day will be held on May 25 with a set of activities designed to strengthen the link with the city of Valparaiso and throughout our region.
